A Dose of the Healthcare Business

Science and healthcare have become enormous international industries in the past couple decades. Given the recent events in the healthcare, insurance, and healthcare consulting industries, it is important industry for any business executive to understand. This panel will discuss the opportunities and growing occupations in the healthcare industry.

A Little R&R: An Inside Look at the Hospitality Industry

Panelists from the various leisure industries, including hotels, restaurants, breweries, spas, and casinos, will speak on how they got into the field, what opportunities are available for undergraduates, and what characteristics they are looking for in job applicants. There will be a particular emphasis put on the international aspect of this industry.

A Taste of Success: The Restaurant Business

This panel will provide insight into the realm of starting and managing a restaurant. Some of the panelists will be able to walk the attendees through the process of creating a restaurant chain from scratch while others will explain the details of making an already established restaurant location thrive. The possibility of entrepreneurship and innovation within the exciting business of restaurant service will be explored.

Beyond Banking: VC, PE and Hedge Funds

This panel will provide students with the other side of the financial world beyond banking. Experts in the field will give an inside look into their day-to-day responsibilities and the benefits of considering a finance career.

Brand Management: Marketing, Advertising, & Public Relations

In a modern world of choice and information, success is all about image and perception. Lean more about the industry that drives our desires. Whether it be in-house advertising or advertising agencies, hear from the experts on marketing culture, creativity, and the steps they took to succeed.

Business School 101

This panel is a general information session discussing the reasons one would want to attend business school, the process of applying to business school, and the structure of business school. It will discuss the differences among business schools and programs, and speakers will discuss how their experiences with business school have shaped their careers.

Business Valuation Workshop

This interactive panel will provide a hands-on tutorial on how to determine a company's value. After giving a basic run-through of company annual and quarterly reports and emphasizing the key points on income and balance sheets that investors should focus on, panelists will walk attendees through a few examples of select firms students have an interest in.

Bylines and Bestsellers: Journalism and Publishing

From the daily news on which we rely to the books we've come to love, the publishing industry definitely has a prominent place in our lives. Learn from experts about marketing in a new day and age, the influence of technology and ebook platforms, and the traditional aspects of the publishing industry's culture. Are certain majors more geared towards publishing? How crucial is networking? Find out in this panel.

Career Discovery Workshop

Why do so many successful students with great potential end up compromising their intended career paths, choosing options that seem conventional or secure? The pursuit of passion through work too often gets pushed aside for more “practical” and “prestigious” options.  While friends, family, and colleagues may support the safer path, those who relinquish their dreams are often left dissatisfied. Make sure you escape the unhappiness, despair or the dreaded “golden handcuffs” that can come from this issue. This panel will show how making the right decisions at the start can be well worth it

Consulting 101

Through representatives of top consulting firms, this panel aims to provide the attendees of this panel with the basics of the consulting field. In addition to providing a taste of what consulting is like and what the job of a consultant entails, this panel serves to help the participants start preparing for the consulting track. Specifically, attendees will obtain advice of how to develop a career in consulting and how the current economic crisis has impacted this industry. The ultimate goal of this panel is to give the participants a better sense of whether consulting is right for them.

Design, Buy, Sell: Dynamics of the Fashion World

This panel aims to provide attendees with multiple sides of the fashion industry. Attendees will learn the inside scoop on how to find a personal edge in the competitive yet desirable fashion industry. Through the insight of retail revolutionaries and leaders, the girls will learn their place in retail and be more exposed to this high end industry.

Embracing Ingenuity: How to Start and Run Your Own Business

Targeted at student entrepreneurs, this panel will feature young individuals with demonstrated success in starting a social venture who will speak about their experiences in starting their initiative and the distinctive process that drove them to undertake their respective projects. This interactive workshop will run attendees through the steps of starting a social enterprise, from writing a business plan to applying for funding.

Finance 101

By distinguishing and providing insight into the different roles their respective company plays, from asset management to investment banking, representatives from the leading global financial firms will give students a better understanding of the inner workings of Wall Street. Attendees will also learn what they should be doing to prepare for and gain an edge for the rigorous and competitive selection process.

Going Global with Emerging Markets

The business world is not longer confined to the boundaries of the United States.  Business truly has gone global. This panel will discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with expanding to the global marketplace. 

Going Green in Business: Forging a New Era of Sustainability

This will be an informational panel on recent history and the rise of innovative techniques to shift to environmental-friendly and efficient use of energy and resources in businesses. It will discuss the importance and significance of green business in today's context on social, economic, and environmental levels. The future of green tech, as well as the government aspect of green business, in terms of regulations, will also be addressed

Lights, Camera, Action: Media and Entertainment

Behind the glitz and glamour of Hollywood are the people who work their magic in this highly secretive industry. From music to movies, learn the truth about the entertainment industry and what it really takes to succeed from the women who made the series and songs we've all come to love.

Mastering the I-Banking Interview

This interactive panel will be conducted by recent graduates and representatives in the investment banking industry. Panelists will instruct attendees on how to market themselves, how to master technical questions, and the methods they used to prepare, execute, and solidify their positions through successful interviews. Panelists should bring their resumes to review themselves as panelists walk through the steps. 

Networking 101: Managing Professional Connections

Everyone's heard the buzz about networking, now come learn what it's all about! This panel discussion and an interactive workshop will offer valuable networking skills, helping attendees gain an edge in landing their desired job positions!

Philanthropic Business: Promoting Social Innovation

Non-profits and social enterprises present individuals with the unique opportunity to positively and directly impact the lives of others. Leaders from various aspects of the sector will speak about their involvement and personal experiences, with a focus on the benefits of working with businesses with a social mission.

Real Estate: A Blueprint of the Industry

This panel will address a recent history of the real estate market and the expectations for its upcoming short-term and long-term futures. It will inform students of the opportunities in real estate, how it is changing in various areas, both within cities and around the world. It would also inform girls of how to get into the market and the skills needed to succeed in real estate, as well as how/where to acquire such skills.

Social Media: Internet & Your Business

No one can deny that social media and internet are now integral to the success of any business, small or large. Through this panel, attendees will learn the ins and outs outs of how businesses have leveraged the new methods of communication to grow and build their ideas. The panel will conclude with new methods and where social media and networking is going in the future.

Specialty Panel: Women in Politics

This panel will feature Kennedy School Institute of Politics Fellow Christina Bellantoni.  The special breakout will speak about growing a business, entering the political scene, and how to get recognition for your business on a national scale.  Ms. Bellantoni will speak about joining a startup and the changing roles of social media in the upcoming elections and how the 2008 election changed the nature of political campaigns forever.

The Verdict: Public Policy and Corporate Law

This will be a panel on the intersection between law and business, examining current policies in place and how they affect how businesses are run. It will also examine special relationships between lobbyists for large corporations and government officials, as well as understand what themes and values guide corporate law. It will explain career options on both the business and government side that has to deal with this intersection and how they each impact one another.

Understanding Today's Economy

The Today's Economy panel serves to inform the participants on what is happening in the economy right now. Through the lens of newspaper representatives and Harvard professors, attendees will learn how the current economic crisis began and how it expanded. The panel will delve into specific issues underlying the financial crisis and the housing market. The ultimate goal of this panel is to provide attendees with information about the current economy and how it influences everyone individually as well as collectively.
